About
After a busy career in IT project management, I wanted to change to something with more meaning. In my mid-40’s I started training at the prestigious British School of Osteopathy (now University College of Osteopathy), and I have not regretted one single day since. I hope to continue working as an osteopath for as long as health and fitness will permit. I have written more about the transition in this Facebook post.
During the pandemic, whilst we were all staying at home, and there was not so much osteopathy to be done, I was fortunate to get an additional job as a carer, supporting people in their homes. This is taking a back seat now that things have returned towards normal, but I met some wonderful care patients and learned so much about how people can manage at home when they are less physically able.
I try to exercise regularly. I will admit, I am more motivated when there is a compelling reason to do this, so I have run a marathon, swam in the sea for charity, completed sponsored walks, and had a go at challenges such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. From time to time I try things like Zumba or Body Combat. I can wobble all over a yoga mat! I really empathise with people who do not find the thought of exercise compelling, so I understand how this is not always a welcome prospect for recovery.
