About

Facebook Post: I changed career in my mid-40’s. I had to - my old one was making me ill. I didn’t enjoy it any more, but I felt trapped. I was unable to recognise I had exhausted all my coping mechanisms. So eventually, my dutiful, faithful, wonderful body took over, and *made* me stop. I developed a number of auto-immune conditions simultaneously, and I felt ill, old and tired for months.
This happens to MANY of us. Our bodies make us stop, and take better care of ourselves. Osteopathy can help, because Osteopaths don’t just consider the physical symptoms, but also your emotional and psychological state. Hands-on treatment with someone who understands that sometimes, it’s not *just* about the muscles/ligaments/bones - if this sounds good, book now, using the button above.

After a busy career in IT project management, I wanted to change to something with more meaning.  In my mid-40’s I started training at the prestigious British School of Osteopathy (now University College of Osteopathy), and I have not regretted one single day since.  I hope to continue working as an osteopath for as long as health and fitness will permit. I have written more about the transition in this Facebook post.

During the pandemic, whilst we were all staying at home, and there was not so much osteopathy to be done, I was fortunate to get an additional job as a carer, supporting people in their homes.  This is taking a back seat now that things have returned towards normal, but I met some wonderful care patients and learned so much about how people can manage at home when they are less physically able.

I try to exercise regularly.  I will admit, I am more motivated when there is a compelling reason to do this, so I have run a marathon, swam in the sea for charity, completed sponsored walks, and had a go at challenges such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.  From time to time I try things like Zumba or Body Combat. I can wobble all over a yoga mat!  I really empathise with people who do not find the thought of exercise compelling, so I understand how this is not always a welcome prospect for recovery.
